Default Lyrica & Pregnancy

Hi I am new to this forum, i have had Migraine with Aura for over 20 years, i lose my sight & speech, and get pain down usually one side of my head and face. I tried recently to come off all Migraine Medication to see what would happen, and realised that i need to be on a preventative medication. My Specialist has put me on Lyrica, and my husband & I would like to try for a baby next year. Has anyone been on Lyrica while pregnant? Or do you know, if you can take Lyrica while you are trying to conceive and then come off it when you fall pregnant, as i know its not a good idea to be on any type of medication while pregnant, or perhaps someone knows something i dont. I would love to hear from someone who has Migraine and has been able to have a baby. Would love your help

Hi,

Firstly, I just want to say that the majority of migraineurs who become pregnant note an improvement in their migraine so you may not need your medication at all during pregnancy! However, it is - of course - different for everyone.

Lyrica is primarily an anti-epileptic drug and some epiletics will continue to take it during pregnancy - as the benefits would outweigh the negatives. For migraineurs, a complete cessation of medication is advised. However, you should consult with your doctor on this and for advice on how the medication can affect conception. Together with your doctor, you can make a decision after an informed evaluation of risk.

If you would like further medical advice you can call the Migraine Specialist Nurse on 01 7979848. Hopefully, you will also receive some feedback from other women who found themselves in a similar position.
