How many Zomig is too many?

Am 43 years and have had migraines since I was 18 or so, been using the Triptans since they came on the market, lived in the US where I was first properly diagnosed, since I got more than 9 migraines in a month was told I was candidate for preventatives, tried many things some with terrible side effects and one (Amitryptline) left me with high BP! After so many attempts my Dr just prescribed me with enough Zomig or similar and just treat each attack. Since moving back to Ireland had some issues getting enough Zomig, my GP wrote my RX to give me more than enough per month, though DPS only covers 18 tablets in any one month, so if I need more I pay myself. Was in another town when I realised I needed some had my RX but was point blank refused by a pharmacist who thought I was taking too many, never mind that my RX was valid and only 2 months old, got questions about preventatives but was so embarrassed as I felt like a junkie being refused methadone!!! Has anyone had this issue?? Are there different views on how many triptans you can take in one month???

Hi, I've had this problem of not getting enough zomig too. I have got it checked by a few neurologists and doctors and in their prescription hand book they are only allowed prescribe 8 zomig a month because they are bad for your heart. I get more migraine attacks a month than the 8 so I have to pick my days when to take the tablets. I hope that helps a bit.

I have not been directly questioned on the amount I purchase My Prescription is for 6 Zomig butthe chemist has sometimes asked me am I having a bad run of migraines. I don't like taking so many but when you have a Migraine what do you dothe pain will only get worse and last longer if I do not take a Zomig my Migraine are Menstrual and this weekend alone I had to take 7 omig from Friday to Sunday night.
I to would like to know what amount is safe

According to our updated "Guide to Migraine Medications" leaflet - the maximum dosage of Zomig in 24 hours is 10mgs. Overusing triptans can lead to a headache known as Medication Overuse Headache so you should not exceeded the prescribed dosage or course.
